10 Foods to Prevent Breast Cancer. A diet based on the Mediterranean diet could reduce the risk of breast cancer by 30% , according to a study carried out by the Spanish Breast Cancer Research Group (GEICAM) in collaboration with the Carlos III Health Institute.

The pillars of this diet are vegetables, fruits, legumes, fish and olive oil and, according to the study, all of them are associated with a lower risk of suffering from this ailment of which, only in Spain, 26,000 cases are detected each year. These are some of the foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, natural fibers and minerals whose regular consumption can contribute to an effective prevention of cancer development:
1. Olive oil
The University of Navarra and the CIBERobn conducted an investigation among more than 4,000 women for almost 5 years to study the effects of the Mediterranean diet enriched with 4 tablespoons a day of extra virgin olive oil.
The researchers concluded that for every 5% of calories from this type of oil, the risk of breast cancer was reduced by 28%. To benefit from these effects, it must be virgin olive oil, since if it is refined it loses phenols, compounds that are considered powerful antioxidants. Of course, due to its caloric intake, you should not exceed those four tablespoons a day that we mentioned.
